What is the hiring timeline?
The job posting is generally active on our website early to mid-August and the posting closes shortly after the Labour Day holiday. Offers are extended to students before the end of September.
How do I find out more information about the Rotation Program and other opportunities?
Please check with your Career Centre who will know when we will be visiting on campus or attending/hosting recruitment events.
Who can apply for the Rotation Program with National Bank Financial Markets?
Final year students enrolled in an undergraduate or post-graduate program who will have graduated by June are eligible to apply during our Fall recruiting cycle. Example – We will be recruiting September 2018 for students graduating by June 2019.
What if the program I am enrolled in isn’t business related?
National Bank Financial Markets values diversity which includes hiring employees with diverse educational backgrounds. We hire from a multitude of programs such as Finance, Business, Economics, Mathematics, Financial Engineering and Computer Sciences. The Rotation Program is designed to give you the skills and knowledge you require to be successful in Financial Markets.
I have submitted my application online and I haven’t heard anything back to schedule a first interview?
Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications we receive, we will only contact those candidates we would like to interview. Once the recruiting period has been completed, we will notify all the applicants that the recruiting for this year has been completed.
What can I expect during the interview?
Generally, the interview will be based on behavioural type questions. For the first round of interviews, you will be interviewed by a team of 2 people. Each team has their own interviewing style, so we advise students to be prepared for both behavioural and technical questions. The final round of interviews will be held in our Toronto offices with members of our Management team.
How many students are accepted into the Rotation program each year?
Each year it varies, however, we generally hire approximately 5 – 10 students in total.
How does the Rotation Program work?
The Rotation Program includes a 3 month classroom and technical training program in Montreal. This is followed by 4 months of rotations of 2 to 4 weeks in each of the business lines specific to Corporate & Investment Banking or Sales & Trading. The rotations are in Toronto, Montreal and Calgary. Participants are expected to be based in one of the three cities and we will provide accommodation when they are required to rotate to desks outside of their home base.
Once I finish the Rotation Program, what happens next?
Once you have completed either the Corporate & Investment Banking or the Sales & Trading Rotation Program, you will be given a position in your selected area in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver. Exact positions will depend on the needs of the business lines and the preference of the candidates.
